Amish buggy crash kills one

One Grant County, Wis. teenager is dead, after a car crashed into the back of an Amish buggy.

It happened near Fennimore, Wis. at 12:29 a.m. Monday.

17-year-old Christian Esch of Fennimore was driving a horse and buggy east on US Highway 18.

35-year-old Jason Danhof was driving his 2003 Acura 4-door in the same direction on the same road, when he crested a hill and hit the back of the buggy, dragging it several hundred feet.

The Grant County Sheriff's office says the buggy had no visible slow moving vehicle sign.

The collision ejected Esch and his two passengers, 19-year-old Lydia Esch and 17-year-old Elizabeth Miller, from the buggy. Both Christian and Lydia Esch were transported to the Grant Regional Health Center. The driver sustained minor injuries, and Lydia Esch received life-threatening injuries.

The Grant County coroner pronounced Elizabeth Miller dead at the scene.

Danhof, of Waukon, was not injured.
