Iowa State Football Media Day

Iowa State Junior Jerome Tiller has the most experience-- transfer Steele Jantz has the most athleticism-- while redshirt freshman Jared Barnett has the most accurate arm.

that's all led to a 3-way race for the starting quarterback spot in Ames.

Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads said, "The things that we're looking for as a staff are decision making, are leadership, are accuracy, and a quarterback who can get the job done with his feet as well as his mind and his arm."

One thing is certain, however, all 3 believe they have the tools to start in the Big 12 Conference:

Barnett said,  "My main goal for being here is starting, and to play, and to get the opportunity to lead this team to a championship."

Tiller said, "Coming on to the field, understanding what to do, I have a good mindset on that. When I see things I'm able to adjust to it, so as far as that I feel pretty confident."

Jantz said, "My goal is just to win. That's all I care about. When it comes down to it, that's what's important to me, so no matter what I do, I'm going to do whatever I can to win every game."

Iowa State expects to have a starter named by August 20th. As for the rest of the squad-- the Cyclones return 15 of 22 starters from a year ago. Iowa State hosts UNI in the season opener on September 3.
