Crop duster crashes in Washington County; nearly takes out home

A Washington County family is counting their blessings after a plane came just feet from crashing right into their home.

Around 5:45 Wednesday night, a crop duster crashed into a yard in rural Washington. It came just feet from taking out Craig and Holly Jones' home.

They live near the airport so they are used to hearing and seeing planes, but Holly tells KWWL she walked outside her garage Wednesday night and saw a plane coming right at her, at a lower elevation than normal.

Washington County officials say that plane was piloted by Michael Hayman from Mississippi.

Holly says the plane had just taken off before it veered and crashed into her yard, taking out trees and windows. Hayman was able to get out of the plane on his own and had minor injuries.

Watch the video as Holly recounts what happened.

The FAA and Department of Natural Resources have been called to site.

Holly says the plane was full of fuel and fungicide was seeping into the ground causing a strong odor. She told us her family may not stay there Wednesday night, but an officer will stay on the scene as a safety precaution.
