Cedar Rapids library board approves new plans

The Cedar Rapids Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved the design of the new library Tuesday night.

The trustees approved the plans as they were presented in the bid documents and the process can move forward to the bid process for construction.

The next step is approval by the City Council.

Demolition of the True North building, which sits in the 400 block of 4th Avenue SE and is the site that was selected for the new library, is slated to begin in December and the new library is expected to open in the summer of 2013.
