Authorities looking for white van in fatal crash

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is asking for your help locating the driver of a van that may have played a role in a motorcycle crash that caused the death of a Waterloo woman.

It was shortly before 11:00 Monday morning that the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a traffic accident at East Cedar Wapsi Road and North Canfield Road, just north of Dunkerton. When they got there they found a motorcycle in the ditch along with the two people who were riding it.

The driver of the motorcycle, 44-year-old, Francis Heim and his passenger, 37-year-old Tammy Heim were thrown from the motorcycle after it went into the ditch. Both were taken to Allen Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Tammy Heim was later transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City where she later died.

Francis Heim told police he was driving south on North Canfield Road when a white van failed to yield when it entered the intersection. Heim then swerved to miss the van and that's when he lost control of his motorcycle. The van did not stop.

The Heim family released this statement saying, "Francis is doing the best he can. He's trying to recover and the family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers at this time. Any information provided to the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is greatly appreciated."

During the investigation police say tire marks on the road appear to show that Heim swerved to miss something in the road.

If you have any information regarding this white van you are asked to call the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Investigative Unit at 319-291-2587 ext. 5123.
