Zach Johnson golf event raises $1 million

The stars descended on Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids to tee it up in the first annual Zach Johnson Foundation Golf Classic on Monday.

Johnson founded the event this year to help his Kids on Course program.  PGA stars Davis Love III, Ricky Fowler, and Stewart Cink hit the course, along with other area celebrities including Kurt Warner among many others.

The PGA trio said they showed up to help out one of the good guys on tour.

"Zach's one of my best friends out on tour," said Cink, "and he's always played in my event the last several years.  When he told me he was going to start one, there was no question I was coming."

"He's a good friend," agreed Love, "and we love having him living down in our hometown in South Georgia, but it's great for him to help out his hometown, and the foundation's off to a great start.  We're just happy to help out."

The event raised around half a million dollars.  On top of that, Johnson announced that he and his wife would match that meaning about 1 million dollars will go to the kids on course program helping Cedar Rapids elementary students.
