UPDATE: Crop duster crashes into Benton County bean field

Posted:
BENTON COUNTY (KWWL) -

A crop duster sits in an Iowa field Monday night.

Crews in Benton County were called to a field southeast of Vinton around 7 p.m.

Officials on scene tell our crew that the engine on the plane failed, keeping the pilot from any powering the aircraft. He was forced to land in a bean field.

''There's always a risk, but it appears that this pilot did an excellent job, and did what he had to do and made a nice controlled landing,'' said Benton County Sheriff Deputy Dave Upah.

The plane is registered to South Delta Aviation out of West Helena, Ark. The pilot, who is from Oklahoma, was not seriously injured.
