The Iowa Renewable Energy Association is partnering with the Midwest Renewable Energy Association to offer a small wind site assessor workshop. The workshop will help prepare participants for green jobs in the renewable energy field.
The class will be held Aug. 8-11, at the Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, 120 E Boyson Rd, Hiawatha. The course will help attendees move towards becoming certified in the renewable energy field. Certification communicates to potential employers and customers that an assessor has the necessary knowledge and skills to provide an accurate and useful wind site assessment. A site assessor's job is to inspect potential wind energy sites, determine the wind resource, and conduct analysis to determine if the site is appropriate for a small wind system. This service is essential for homeowners, business owners and farmers interested in using wind to power their property.
Iowa ranks second in the US in installed wind capacity, generating 20% of total electricity from wind, and interest in small wind systems to power Iowa homes, businesses and farms is growing according to the Iowa Renewable Energy Association.
