SALEM (KWWL) -

The Henry County Sheriff's Office says a plane crashed just after 10:00 a.m. Friday.

The Iowa State Patrol says the plane crashed about a half-mile west of Salem in a corn field.

The pilot, Gary Kirby, of McKinney, Texas, was first taken to the Henry County Health Center and then taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to be treated for what law enforcement is calling non-life threatening injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol says Kirby was en route from Oshkosh, Wisconsin when he started having engine troubles.  He tried to land at the Mt. Pleasant Airport, but didn't make it.

There were no other passengers in the plane, and no one on the ground was hurt.
