A Latin beat is bringing some eastern Iowans to move it and shake it like never before.
And it's all happening in a fitness class at Covenant Wellness Center in Waterloo.
Here's Health Plus about Zumba:
Take a Latin beat...
Throw in some dance moves...
And a lot of eastern Iowans are turning their exercise into a fitness party!
"All my friends come with me, so we love it. It's a bunch of fun," said Jayne Blumhardt.
It's called Zumba, a dance program started in 2001 that has attracted more than 112-million followers worldwide.
"To be honest, when you come you don't even feel like you're exercising because you're having so much fun and laughing and it's just a great time," said Merriam Lake, a health promotion facilitator at Covenant.
Merriam teaches Zumba classes at Covenant Wellness Center in Waterloo.
"You can call Covenant Wellness at 272-2313 and just sign up for a general membership and then that membership also gives them access to all the classes that we have and they're all on our website and we have tons of fun classes for everybody to try," she said.
One Columbus High School graduate joined Zumba because of her mom, now she's a big fan.
"It's just fun. You don't really feel like you're working out but you get in a really good workout, so you're sweating by the end. It's just really fun to do," said Jayne.
Jayne will Zumba her way to the University of Iowa this fall.
Currently four Zumba classes a week are offered at Covenant Wellness Center in Waterloo, but two more are being added this fall.
