Arrest made in 10-year old murder case

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says an arrest was made Tuesday in the death of an Early man in 2001.

Tracey Ann Richter-Roberts, 45, was arrested on Tuesday and is charged with first degree murder.  She is currently being held in the Douglas County, Nebraska Jail.

The Sac County Sheriff's Office says they were called to 105 W. South Avenue in Early at 7:07 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2001.  When they arrived, deputies found 20-year-old Dustin Wehde of Early, dead in the upstairs master bedroom.  They say he was shot multiple times.

Roberts told investigators that Wehde and another person had come into the house and attacked her.  She said she was able to get to a handgun and shot Wehde in self defense.  She told investigators that the other person ran from the home.

Investigators now say that they have found evidence that shows Roberts planned to murder Wehde and she used two handguns to do it.

They also say that Roberts planted the evidence in Wehde's car to make it look like he committed the home invasion.

Anyone with additional information related to this case is asked to contact the Sac County Sheriff's Office at (712) 662-7127 or the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation at (712) 262-1873.
