Power failure causes wastewater discharge in Dyersville

DYERSVILLE (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a power failure due to thunderstorms caused a wastewater discharge in Dyersville.  The DNR says both power sources at the city's wastewater treatment plant failed resulting in the discharge into the North Fork of the Maquoketa River.  It was discovered around 8 a.m. Saturday.  The city is using portable pumps to pump wastewater into a basin at the treatment facility but some wastewater is still reaching the river.  People are being advised to avoid contact with the water in the immediate area downstream of the plant.
