Jake Greco: Athlete of the Week

DYERSVILLE (KWWL) -

It was all smiles for the North Fayette Hawks Tuesday night as they advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 2007.

"The guys have been practicing really well the last two week of the regular season and it's carried over to the post-season we knew we had to get some runs today we had to make some defensive plays. We made enough of those, they're a great team and fortunately we hit the ball ourselves," says head coach Dan Hovden.

After a big hit by Reid Nuss in the top of the 6th,  the Hawks were able to hold on to secure a 10-7 victory over Dyersville-Beckman earning a trip to Principal Park in Des Moines.

"It's been the goal all year to get down to Principal Park and now we got it 4 seniors I think we really deserve it," says senior Reid Nuss.

But it all starts at the top of the lineup with Jake Greco. Setting the table for the Hawks, Greco went 3 for 4 but his big contribution came in the top of the second in the form of a two run shot. For his 12th home run of the season.

"I guess I got down in the count then he threw a couple of balls and I cam back it was 3-2 hit a home run and it felt great. I was really excited about it coming around first," said athlete of the week Jake Greco.

Batting .556 with 64 RBI this season Greco has been the spark plug that make the Hawks click.

"He's really carried us. When he's going everybody feeds off of that and he had a great game led us off and to victory."

"His hitting his fielding he really picks up the team. We kind of feed off his hitting there and his deep home run helped a lot."

Helping the Hawks continue their season into the state tournament Friday night where they will play Kuemper Catholic at 6 p.m.
