World Famous Clydesdales fight the heat

The world famous Budweiser Clydesdales are galloping through eastern Iowa in this record-setting heat.

"It takes about six people, five hours to get the Clydesdales ready. From grooming to combing their feathers. That's the hair on their legs," Clydesdale handler John Nisley said.

The handlers have a routine when it comes to getting these horses ready and comfortable, but this week provided a challenge...heat indexes in the 100's.

"We try to give them a bath or two per day and one before a show and one after. Then we have enough fans going as we can," Nisley said.

That also means exercising them less too, going from walking an hour each morning to only walking a half hour.

The handlers say these small steps help the big horses put on a perfect show.

"Overall they are adapting well," Nisley said.

The Clydesdales will be in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday afternoon. They will parade through Czech Village starting at 5:30. They will also be at The Iowa State Fair in August.
