Police warn of scam at Michaels stores


Cedar Rapids Police are warning people about a scam that happened earlier this year.

Police say that tampered payment card terminals were placed in Michaels stores earlier this year.  The tampered terminals were able to capture the card holders name, account number and Personal Identification Number or PIN.

According to Michaels, the terminals were in stores between Feb. 8, 2011 and May 6, 2011. According to a list provided by Michaels, stores in Iowa possibly impacted by this scam are located in Ankeny, Coralville, Davenport and Marion.

If you believe you were a victim of this scam, you are asked to contact your bank or card issuer.
