Jet skiers rescued from Cedar River

Two jet skiers had to be rescued from the Cedar River Monday night after running out of gas.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's deputies, La Porte City Fire and Rescue and La Porte City Police were called to 12360 Carr Road at around 8:30 p.m. Monday for a report of a possible water rescue.

When they arrived, crews learned that 37-year-old Lisa Lewis of Cedar Rapids and 23-year-old Denise Kohlhaas of Waterloo had been jet skiing on the Cedar River near that address and were last seen heading upstream at approximately 7:00 p.m.

La Porte City Fire launched their rescue boat to begin their search.

About 15 minutes later, dispatch was notified that Lewis and Kohlhaas were found about a mile downstream by one of the people they were jet skiing with.

Once towed back in, Lewis and Kohlhaas told deputies they ran out of gas and the current carried them downstream.

Neither of them were injured.
