Iowa City Police investigating weekend burglaries

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The Iowa City Police Department is investigating a number of burglaries from over the weekend.

Police say at least four burglaries were reported in the 400 - 600 blocks of S. Johnson Street, S. Van Buren Street, and S. Dodge Street between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. on July 16 and 17.

According to police, one resident was inside when he heard a knock at the door.  When he did not answer, he told police that two men attempted to force the door open.  When the resident announced his presence, he says the men fled.

Another person told police that he arrived home to find a man climbing out a broken window in the living room.

The men were described as one black male and one white male. The white male was described as stocky, 5'8", with brown hair and wearing a black shirt. The black male was described as stocky, 5'8", and was wearing a red shirt and had a white bandana covering his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers.  They are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of these suspects.  Call 358-TIPS (8477).
