More than 100 soldiers reunited with family and friends

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

More than 100 soldiers were reunited with family and friends following a homecoming ceremony at the UNI Dome on Saturday.

The Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division were deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Families started arriving at the UNI Dome with signs and balloons before 10 a.m. The homecoming ceremony started about 12:15 p.m., running about 45 minutes behind schedule.

About 2,900 soldiers are returning to eastern Iowa this month. The first homecoming ceremonies took place in Cedar Rapids, Johnston and Boone on Thursday.

A total of 30 homecoming ceremonies are expected to take place over a two week period.
