If the name Hermsen sounds familiar it should, Jenna is the sister of former Hawks standout B.J. Hermsen who is currently a member of the single A Twins affiliate Beloit. But, throughout Jenna's career she has stood on her own.
"She's a thoroughbred," says head coach, Kevin Schuchmann, "and she wants to make a name for herself. She doesn't want to be B.J.'s little sister anymore and I think she proved that tonight."
A nine strikeout performance Wednesday night that sent the Hawks to the state tournament is just a byproduct of what she has been doing all season. Posting a 20-3 record in the circle and a microscopic 1.42 ERA this season. But it all started from day one.
"We really, really wanted to get back there and we worked our butts off during the preseason to get there," said Hermsen.
A future Upper Iowa Peacock, Hermsen knows they still have work to do.
"Were expecting tough competition but were going to bring our "A" game and bring good competition with them."
The Hawks begin play in the state tournament on Tuesday.
