Garwin community weathered storms like this before

The post office building in Garwin is missing its roof, following Monday's severe storms. There's damage throughout the community. Mayor Greg Ochs tells KWWL that 95 percent of the people in Garwin saw some kind of damage, from tree limbs down, to shingles taken off their roof.

He tells us that most homes just got back Tuesday night. He's hoping all electricity is back on in Garwin by Wednesday afternoon.

This isn't the first time Garwin has suffered a setback.

"The closest thing I would compare this to was probably five years ago we had quite an ice storm that we had to bring in generators for five days and we weathered that and it made us stronger community and well do the same here," said Ochs.

Tuesday night, those displaced by the storms were provided a free meal by the Iowa Pork Producers.
