Coffee and tea may prevent deadly MRSA infection

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Drinking coffee and tea may lower the risk of getting infected with the potentially deadly bacteria called MRSA.

Studies suggest having MRSA bacteria in your nose significantly increases the risk of infection.

A new study looked at the beverage habits of a large sample of adults.  They found participants who drank coffee or tea were one half as likely to have MRSA in their nasal passages.

Researchers say they don't know why coffee and tea have this beneficial effect, but they say other studies have found the drinks have the ability to kill bacteria.
