WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Emergency crews were called to Lost Island Water Park just after 11:00 on Friday morning after a lifeguard fell from a platform.

Park employees say the male guard was at the top of a racing slide, standing on the entrance to the ride and slipped, falling to another platform 15 feet below.
Managers at Lost Island said the fall was not related to the ride itself.

The employee was awake and talking when transported to the hospital.
Authorities have not released the identity or condition of the park employee.

After the fall, managers say six lifeguards were in the area and had the injury victim on a backboard in less than one minute.
Lifeguards then moved their co-worker down the ride's stairs and to the parking lot, where an ambulance was waiting.

Lifeguards at Lost Island Water Park are required to attend life-saving training.
There are 78 guards, and groups attend sessions to review backboarding and first-aid three times per week.

Lifeguards attended one of these life-saving sessions the morning of the fall.

When it comes to the quick rescue response, Lost Island lifeguard manager Ryan Nie said, "I've never been prouder than my guards than I was today."  Nie also said several Lost Island workers were very thankful for the extensive safety training they review each month, as they were able to secure their friend and co-worker and safely move him to the care of doctors.

Lost Island didn't say how long the injured lifeguard has worked at the park.
