Runaway inmate now back behind bars

An inmate convicted in the death of a 20-year-old woman is back in custody after being on the run for more than three weeks.

Authorities say 27-year-old Alajuwon Shamar Johnson didn't return to a work release facility in Coralville.

Johnson was allowed to leave to find a job.

He was booked into the Johnson County Jail yesterday.

Johnson is serving a 5 year sentence for involuntary manslaughter.

He was convicted in the 2009 death of Kylie Perkins.

She was shot in the chest by a gun Johnson allegedly brought into her apartment.
