Tony Becker: Athlete of the Week

GILBERTVILLE (KWWL) -

Tony Becker of Don Bosco has done all the little things right this season and has the Dons out to a 30-2 record. Taking on the role of the ace Becker is 6-0 this season with a microscopic .77 ERA setting the table for the Dons.

"He's a fierce competitor he's been our ace all year he's been a bull on the mound," says Dons Head Coach, Corey Carlson, "Even when he doesn't have his best stuff he's competing and getting guys out."

Becker has also done it at the plate this season. Batting .441 with 8 home runs and 46 RBI, but the taste of a state quarter final loss last season to Preston still lingers.

"It was a hurtful season but at the end of the year we didn't want to go out that way but coming back we all are hungry ready to go again, wanting to go back to the state tournament again,'' says Becker.

To get there, Becker knew it was going to be difficult after losing 5 seniors from last years state tournament team he knew he was going to have to step up and take on a leadership role.

"Make sure I'm a leader in everything and help the team be if were down get them up."

While Becker will continue to play baseball next season at Kirkwood Community College, it is he, along with the 6 seniors on this year's team that have ensured the tradition Don Bosco Baseball. But this season the goal is to win the last game.
