Cedar Rapids revises holiday trash pickup schedule

A change in holiday trash pick up plans has some people dealing with some extra trash. The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste agency decided to keep normal trash pick up dates instead of offsetting pick up for the July 4th holiday.

But many people didn't know about the charge, and assumed trash would be picked up one day later. Now the agency has plans to collect all that extra waste.

Residents with Monday collection dates will be allowed to set out up to two bags or cans of trash on July 11. More than two bags or cans will need the $1.50 extra garbage sticker.

For people with Tuesday trash collection, you can still set out your trash. Please call the Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling Division at 286-5897 or email them your name and address and describe the issue.  Crews will work to pick up your trash the next day.

Wednesday through Friday pickup will be as scheduled.
