Ben Stutt from Monticello High School can rake, and his absurd .623 batting average proves it.
"He hits the ball as hard as any kid I've seen in High School," says head coach Mark Spensley.
In a game where individual numbers are everything Stutt takes the cake. In 69 at bats this season he has only struck out twice while knocking 10 home runs with 51 RBIs.
But it hasn't always been roses for the senior after suffering a setback his junior year. Trying to dive back to a base, he had his hand caught and it broke in the blink of an eye. The rest of the season wasn't the same.
The multi-sport athlete can do a little bit of everything. In May, Stutt won the 2A shot put title with a throw of 56 feet, 6 inches. He will attend the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls in the fall to throw shot put. But for now the focus is on getting the team a state tournament appearance.
"It'd be fun to go to state, said Stutt, "so I think everyone wants to real bad so hard work and hopefully it will pay off."
