Cedar Falls couple welcomes adopted 4-year-olds

Dan and Kim Jensen from Cedar Falls are the proud new parents of Dayton and Maya.

The 4-year-olds grew up in the same orphanage in Bulgaria.

Their adoption story was featured on KWWL back in May.

Their caseworkers referred to them as twins since they were born just a day apart.

"The same height, the same weight, born a day apart, so it's like little four year old twins."

The similarities don't end there.  Both children live with Down Syndrome.

Dan and Kim Jensen had been looking to adopt a child through Reece's Rainbow, a website dedicated to finding homes for displaced children with disabilities.

A few months later the Iowa couple was notified that they were eligible to take in Dayton and Maya.  Dan Jensen traveled to Bulgaria to finalize the adoption.  Kim Jensen stayed back in Iowa to continue caring for their other children.  In June of 2011, the Jensen's became the legal guardians of Dayton and Maya.

"It feels great to finally have them back here at home, sleeping in their own little beds and getting the care and support they need," said Dan Jensen.

The couple blogged daily about their about the experience and hope to raise awareness for children with special needs.
