Early morning fire destroys New Hampton flower shop

Six area fire departments battled an early morning blaze at the Blue Iris in downtown New Hampton on Sunday.

The fire started at the business, located in the 100 block of West Main Street, at around 5:00 a.m.

The New Hampton Fire Department says a passerby called it in after noticing smoke coming from the building.

A hair salon next door suffered some smoke and water damage according to the fire department.

The Blue Iris owner says she will set up shop in a building across the street as this is her busy season.  She hopes to be up and running on Monday.

She says the business has been open for 13 years.

Crews from Charles City, Lawler, Ionia, Fredericksburg, North Washington, and Nashua helped New Hampton battle the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
