People say you should love what you do... and Monte McCunniff certainly does.
"It's my life."
Monte operates a State Farm insurance office in Cedar Falls.
It's been his life for nearly 50 years since his college professor helped him get the job.
"I still dearly love it as much as the day I started. In fact, more so. Back then it was tough working everyday, and now I just manage my people, and we're having a lot of fun."
Monte does take more time off now.... he says thanks to a great team and great clients.
"If you take care of your people through the years, they'll take care of you."
A prime example of that was in 2008-- after the tornado and flood.
"We handed people $500,000 and $600,000 checks to rebuild their home, replace their contents. It's really gratifying to do that and take care of those people and they were my friends."
Monte and his office are part of State Farm's Chairman's Circle.
Less than 3 percent of state farm agents in the U.S. get this designation for top producing agents.
Monte's office serves more than 4,000 families with more than 15,000 policies.
"Here's what happened. I got people insured in the 60s, then I got their children, now I've got the next generation."
Besides insurance, Monte also feels strongly about giving back to the community.
He's donated to the family YMCA of Black Hawk County and the Cedar Falls Recreation Center.
He also served on the Cedar Falls Utilities Board for 16 years and helped bring fiber optics to the area.
Monte is also passionate about the Special Olympics.
Even after almost 50 years... Monte isn't slowing down at work or with his support for the community.
