FLOYD COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Division of Criminal Investigation has released the names of those involved in a shooting following a chase in northeast Iowa.

Officials say State Trooper Tyrel Williamson, State Trooper Mark Ades, and Floyd County Deputy Chris Myers were involved in the shooting outside a home east of Floyd.

Officials say 30-year-old John Pekrum of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin was wanted on a warrant for probation violation out of Wisconsin. He was also suspected of stealing a vehicle. Around noon  Wednesday, Pekrum was spotted by state troopers and a chase ensued. Authorities say it continued until Pekrum left Iowa and entered Minnesota. That's when Minnesota authorities took over, until he again re-entered Iowa. The chase ended at the intersection of County Road B33 and Timber Avenue. That's after the suspect lost control of the stolen vehicle. Authorities say he came out of his vehicle, armed with a hunting style knife and was confronted by the troopers and deputy.  Pekrun refused to obey the officers' repeated commands to drop the knife.

In attempted to take him into custody, Deputy Myers discharged a taser, but it didn't work. While attempting to take Pekrun into custody, Deputy Myers discharged a Taser, but the Taser was not effective. Pekrun refused to obey the officers' commands. Officials say Trooper Williamson eventually discharged his firearm, killing the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing and final results of an autopsy are pending.

Trooper Williamson has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
