Busy mom's battle against breast cancer

Valerie Aguilera used to think of the color pink quit differently.

"When I was younger I thought of Victoria Secret. When I had children it was filling their room with pink," said Aguilera.

Now this mother of three sees the color pink and thinks of the breast cancer community. Her children see the color pink and think of hope.

"They say that pink ribbons make mommy better and the oldest always says its going to make my hair grow back," said Aguilera.

In February, Aguilera went for a routine visit to the OB-GYN and that is when doctors found a lump in her breast.

"I had just recently had children and I would have just thought it was milk or something. I would have never thought to look or check," said Augilera.

Besides being a busy mom, Aguilera is now in the midst of 20 weeks of chemotherapy and will eventually undergo reverse hormone therapy.

"I think she is really strong. Ever since we found out the news she has been really brave and able to take this on," said Dan Aguilera, Valerie's husband.

And she is taking this cancer on one day at a time and staying strong for her children. In the future Aguilera hopes to be able to help children who have parents with cancer. She said one of the hardest things was breaking the news to her kids.

Aguilera's friends are holding a dinner and silent auction to help assist with expenses.

It will be this Saturday in Waverly at the country club. Dinner will be at 6:00 and a silent auction will be at 7:00. More information is available on "Support for Valerie Mick Aguilera" Facebook page.
