Iowa 'Dirt Warriors' returning from Afghanistan

The Iowa National Guard says a homecoming ceremony is being planned for the 734th Agribusiness Development Team as they return from Afghanistan.

The first joint Iowa Army and Air National Guard unit will be honored on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the large gym at Johnston High School. The ceremony is open to the public.

The unit includes about 60 members from around the state. Their mission was to provide training and advice at universities and provincial agencies and help farmers. The members called themselves the "Dirt Warriors."

The unit left in July 2010 at a send-off ceremony at Camp Dodge. They served in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. The unit is currently out processing at Ft. McCoy in Wisconsin.
