Police arrest suspect in Cedar Rapids bank robbery


Police say a suspect is in custody for the June 3, robbery at Hills Bank in downtown Cedar Rapids.

On June 3, just after 10 a.m., police say a man entered the Hills Bank at 240 3rd Avenue SE and handed a note demanding money to a bank employee. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Cedar Rapids Police worked with the FBI to investigate the robbery.

Police say the investigation led them to 67-year-old Robert Rutan who had relocated to Overland, Missouri. Overland Police arrested Rutan on Tuesday evening.

Rutan will be extradited to Cedar Rapids to face second degree robbery charges. Rutan was also charged with violation of federal probation.
