Black Hawk County farm damaged by strong winds

Monday night's storm knocked out power, blew down trees, and destroyed several buildings on one Black Hawk County farm.

For 60 plus years the Brecher family has called a farm home just north of La Porte City. During that time they have never seen Mother Nature wreak such havoc on their property.

One machine shed was lifted off of its foundation and destroyed. The two John Deere tractors inside had minor damage.

A cattle barn was also twisted off it's foundation in the storm and several trees were knocked down.

Marvin Brecher says he heard the wind, but didn't think much of it.

"We checked some of the lights in the house and they were off. We figured something was the matter but we didn't get up until this morning at 5:30 and looked out and saw all the damage," said Brecher.

Friends and neighbors were out at the Brecher farm early Tuesday morning helping pick up some of the debris.

The Brecher's home was untouched and no one was injured.

The National Weather Service also investigated the storm damage. They say it was most likely caused by a strong microburst.
