Cedar Falls Fire gets grants to give out more smoke alarms

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The Cedar Falls Fire Department will soon be able to provide more free smoke alarms to local families.  The department has received two grants that will help bolster its door-to-door program, where firefighters install smoke alarms in homes.  With the grants, the fire department will be able to buy about 275 dual sensor alarms that can help alert families of both smoldering fires and sudden burst of flames.

"This year in the state of Iowa, more than 120 people's lives have been saved in fires due to an operating smoke detector.  Firefighters are more than happy to help out in getting some detectors to people.  It's a great value for people to be able to get these things for free," said John Bostwick, Cedar Falls Fire Department Battalion Chief.

Cedar Falls firefighters can also perform home fire inspections to look for safety hazards when installing your smoke alarms.  To learn more about these programs, click here or call 319-273-8622.
