Man convicted of killing Dan Gable's sister dies in prison

A man serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of Dan Gable's sister has died in prison.

64-year-old John Thomas Kyle was under the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections, and passed away after a serious heart attack this week.

Kyle was serving a life sentence for First Degree Murder from Black Hawk County, convicted in the death of Diane Gable, the sister of legendary Iowa wrestler Dan Gable.

Kyle escaped from the Iowa State Penitentiary on March 29, 1977, was apprehended in Florida and returned to Iowa custody on November 2, 1977.

Kyle's custody was transferred to the Kansas Department of Corrections following the escape return on October 23, 1981.
