Changes announced for Dubuque fireworks and air show

Radio Dubuque and the Dubuque Jaycees have announced new locations for several of the events in the annual July 3rd Fireworks and Air Show over the Mississippi River.

The announcer's stage, the VIP seating area, the parachute jump landing site, and all food vendors will be moving to the AY McDonald Park near the Hawthorne Street Boat Launch Ramp. In previous years, all these activities were held in the parking lot of Bowling and Beyond.

Radio Dubuque General Manager Tom Parsley said a major reason for the change is safety in communicating with the pilots participating in the air show as the bluffs near the previous location have hindered communication in the past.

Because of the change, there will be limited access to the park during the holiday weekend. Starting at 10 p.m. on July 2, city officials will close AY McDonald Park and there will be no boat launching, vehicle and trailer parking, or other public access until after the fireworks display on Sunday night.
