Breastfeeding may lower risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Breastfeeding appears to lower the risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, according to a review of several studies.

Researchers reviewed data collected from nearly 300 studies.

They found infants who received breast milk at any point during the first two months of life were 60 percent less likely to die from SIDS.

Children who were exclusively breastfed had a 75 percent lower risk.

Experts say breastfed babies may be more easily aroused from sleep, but they say more studies are needed.
