UPDATE: Alcohol involved in motorcycle accident

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says alcohol was involved in a weekend motorcycle accident near Gilbertville that sent two people to the hospital.

According to Cpt. Rick Abben, three motorcycles were northbound on S. Raymond Road at about 3:11 p.m. Saturday, when Robie Lowder, 46, of Waterloo passed another and rear-ended another motorcycle driven by Ricky Christensen, 49, of Waterloo.

Lowder and Christensen's motorcycles ended up in the ditch near the intersection with Sierra Drive.

Christensen was taken to Covenant Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  Lowder was air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in critical condition.

Abben say none of them were wearing helmets and alcohol was involved in the accident.  They are awaiting the results of blood tests.

The accident remains under investigation.
