Solar-powered boats race in Waterloo

Some world championship boats are on the lake at George Wyth State Park this weekend.  It's the Solar Splash World Championships of Intercollegiate Solar Boat Racing.  20 teams from across the U.S., Turkey and Mexico are competing, including one high school team.  UNI is hosting the event.  After some dreary weather the last two days, the sun emerged to help out the boats Saturday afternoon.
"They design these boats and they build there boats. So there mostly engineers, there marine engineers are alot of them. This is a design and realize it by building your boat and then having compete your boat," said Jeff Morehouse.
The sun-powered boat competition includes an endurance portion and a sprint race.  For the last 2 years, UNI has placed third.
