Top Ranked Xavier Girls Soccer team stays alive for 6th straight State

MUSCATINE (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids Xavier extended its state tournament winning streak to 16 matches as the top-ranked and five-time defending champion Saints advanced to the Class 2A state semifinals with a 4-0 victory over Independence/East Buchanan Thursday afternoon.

 Annie Dale led the Saints with two goals with Kayla Armstrong and Kelsie Sargent adding the other two scores. 

Cedar Rapids Xavier outshot Independence/East Buchanan, 37-5. Independence goalkeeper Katherine McElroy had 20 saves to keep the Mustangs in the match as Xavier held just a 1-0 lead at the half. 

Xavier (17-2) faces Glenwood in the 2A semifinals Friday at 4:00 p.m.

 Independence/East Buchanan, making its first state tournament appearance, ends its season at 15-3.
