First Student bus company responds to manager arrest

The manager of the First Student bus company that serves students in the Waterloo Community School District turned himself into authorities Monday.  Terry Dykstra was then arrested for allegedly falsifying bus maintenance records.  After KWWL's story aired, the bus company issued the following statement.

"First Student is aware that our local contract manager has been charged with two misdemeanors relating to alleged record keeping violations. We have relieved the contract manager of his current duties pending the completion of the investigation. First Student has appointed an interim manager to oversee the summer school operations.

The former contract manager remains employed by First Student but will not perform supervisory duties during the duration of the proceedings.

The safety and security of the students we transport to and from school each day is our core value and a responsibility we take very seriously. We will continue to work closely with our partners in the school district to ensure that all buses are maintained to the highest standard."

Meanwhile, the Waterloo School District is putting together a proposal for bids for a new transportation company contract.  The current contract with First Student expires later this month.
