Waterloo council approves road plan

The Waterloo City Council took another step forward in a move to develop the southern edge of the city. The council approved a possible use of eminent domain to acquire land to build Shaulis Road between Highway 21 and Ansborough Ave. City officials say they are currently in negotiations with landowners to buy the land. They say they don't expect to have to use eminent domain. They expect construction to begin on that road next year.

"Developing a straight thoroughfare is huge to the city to get people from Highway 63 across to the east and as we develop that south business park, it's gonna be south of San Marnan, it's going to be a major access point for that," said Waterloo mayor Buck Clark.

The council also approved a 1% raise for the city's non-unionized workers. It takes effect at the beginning of next month.
