Elkader man leads police on chase through county

An Elkader man faces a number of charges after leading police on a chase through Clayton County.

A deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 20-year-old William Valentine Tuesday morning at 2:30 outside Monona. Officials say Valentine failed to stop and instead reached speeds of 100 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. During the pursuit, authorities say Valentine turned off his lights, and continued through the city limits of Luana. He later lost control near Diplomat Road, entering the ditch. After being blocked off by a deputy, he was taken into custody.

Valentine faces OWI First Offense, Eluding, Reckless Driving, Possession of Alcohol Under 21, Failure to Obey A Stop Sign, No Insurance, and numerous other citations.
