WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A man who called police claiming to have been shot is now under arrest. Waterloo police say 28-year-old Jeromy Griffith attempted to break into a home in the 1100 block of Washington Street.

Griffith called police from a pay phone at the Kwik Stop 3 at 9th and Washington. He told officers he had been shot. Police say Griffith appeared to be intoxicated and was bleeding from wounds to his arm and neck. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A police investigation found the injuries were not from a gunshot wound but were from attempting to break into the Washington Street home.

Griffith was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Criminal Trespass, Public Intoxication and Filing a false police report.
