Senators push for rail service from Iowa to Illinois

A few of Iowa's state senators spent Friday rallying for rail service.

''We're looking at gas prices $4 a gallon, maybe higher in the future and in order to fight that, if you want to fight against gas prices, you've got to come up with viable alternative. And safe, sustainable, affordable rail transportation is that alternative and that's why we need to make an investment now, '' said Democratic Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids.

Senator Hogg was joined by Des Moines-area Sen. Matt McCoy in Cedar Rapids Friday at a rail rally, hosted by the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce.

They were urging people to contact their legislators in support of making passenger rail service from Iowa City to Chicago, by way of the Quad Cities.

The Senate has passed legislation for rail funding. It now goes to the House.
