Manchester's Second Annual Rhubarb Festival June 4th

Pie, jam, wine or juice. All made with rhubarb. The City of Manchester is gearing up for it's second annual Rhubarb Fest. So, why rhubarb?

"We were trying to find something unique. Whenever RAGBRAI came through, our main request for pies was rhubarb pies and we just thought, why not rhubarb," said Rhubarb Fest Committee Member Jackie Sherman.

The festival is at Baum Park in Manchester.

It includes a cook-off for the best home-made items, of course using rhubarb as a main ingredient.

Jackie Sherman said get creative, you can make anything with rhubarb.

"This year we're featuring rhubarb brats. We have one of the local lockers making rhubarb brats, and they're terrific," she said.

There will also be music, kids activities and a food stand where you can buy rhubarb items. Plus, several contests related to rhubarb.

"You can bring the largest rhubarb stalk and win a ribbon or the largest rhubarb leaf or the longest rhubarb stalk," said Sherman.

So, organizers say don't be afraid to give rhubarb a try.

"If somebody says they don't like rhubarb they haven't tried the right product," said Jackie Sherman.

Manchester's Rhubarb Festival is Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Baum Park.

If you want to enter an item to be judged, it must be at the park between 8 and 8:30 a.m.
