Gov. Branstad issues disaster proclamation for six counties

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Gov. Terry Branstad has issued a disaster emergency proclamation for the six counties that border the Missouri River and are dealing with flooding.

The Governor's proclamation allows state resources to be utilized by Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Pottawattamie and Woodbury Counties to prepare for, respond to and recover from the effects of predicted flooding on the Missouri River.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is providing dump trucks to Woodbury County to help in building an earthen berm along the river.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has closed all state run boat ramps on the Missouri River and is requesting that the U.S. Coast Guard suspend recreational boating on the river due to dangerous river flows and flooding conditions.
