The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling Division is giving residents a chance to look at GARBY, the new automated garbage collection container, and ask questions about the program.
The city announced in May that they will distribute the 35-gallon carts to residents throughout July, August and September.
The city will buy 40,000 GARBY carts from Los Angeles, California based Rehrig Pacific Company.
The carts, which are three-feet high, will be light gray with a black lid and will have the city logo on the side. The opening in the cart is 23 inches by 20 inches. The wheels and lid are attached to the cart, just like on the CURBY and YARDY carts.
All residents are invited to attend any of the following informational sessions:
- June 4, 7:00 am-12:00 pm GARBY will be at the Downtown Farmers Market in Green Square Park - June 9, 6:00 pm-7:30 pm GARBY Open House at Kennedy High School Cafeteria - June 16, 6:00 pm-7:30 pm GARBY Open House at Washington High School Cafeteria - June 18, 7:00 am-12:00 pm GARBY will be at the Downtown Farmers Market in Green Square Park - June 23, 6:00 pm-7:30 pm GARBY Open House at Jefferson High School Cafeteria
