Wanted Iowa City man finally arrested; officer hurt

An Iowa City man wanted on several warrants dating back more than a year ago, was finally caught by police on Tuesday night.

Officers saw Geary Lee Zimmon, 22, in the area of Burlington and Governor Streets just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.  Officers say they knew he had active warrants out for his arrest.

Police saw when Zimmon saw the officers, he ran, and in the process, threw a small baggie over a fence.  Police later determined that the baggie contained marijuana.

When officers caught Zimmon, they found a second baggie of marijuana in one of his pockets.  Police say he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance-3rd and subsequent offense in 2009.

Police say an officer sustained a minor injury during the chase.

Zimmon is charged with interference with official acts related to the chase, interference with official acts related to an incident from April 2010, possession of a controlled substance from April 2010 and domestic abuse/assault without intent from an incident in May 2010.
